- Scrapie approved in all colors except blue.

How to Use
Use the Q-flex or Allflex® applicators to install the tags:
- The male and female tags will come to you slightly connected. You will need to tear them apart.
- Place the flag of the female tag under the metal spring finger. The printed side of the female tag will be against the jaw of the applicator. Slide the male tag over the metal pin. Be sure to push it all the way onto the pin. The printed side of the male tag will be against the other jaw of the applicator.
- Make sure the tag is correctly placed. Slowly squeeze the handles together to be sure the male pin aligns with the female opening (be careful to not put the tag together yet).
- Place the ear between the jaws of the applicator. While gripping the ear, quickly and firmly squeeze the handles together until the male tag is inserted through the ear and into the female tag.
Tag placement is critical to success! Avoid the large veins in the ear. Why? Tissue around damaged veins heals slowly—so it’s prone to infection.
Precautions
Note: We will print both sides (male and female) unless otherwise specified. Scrapie approved tags are not available in blue. Flock ID number will be imprinted on female side only unless otherwise indicated.
Inserting Tags In Cold Weather
Plastic tags (all brands) are much easier to install if they are warm. Why? As the temperature drops below freezing plastic becomes less flexible (more stiff) and forcing the male point of a tag through the female takes many more lbs. of pressure (because the female must expand).
So if you care about your hands it’s a good idea to keep the tags above freezing in very cold weather. It takes very little to do this. One method is to simply store them while tagging in a small bucket, cardboard box or tool box with a lid alongside a sealed pop bottle full of warm water. The warm water will keep both the air and the tags warmer in the container.

Functionally, the tags are excellent. I was disappointed with the custom text that was added, however. The ink was faint (more a grey than the black I was expecting) and the font itself a little fuzzy. Easy enough to read now, but I have concerns long-term regarding how they will wear and weather.

Absolutely beyond terrible! Everywhere else that I’ve purchased tags from whether they were blank or basic number tags ALL came collated on some kind of carrier. Whether cardboard or plastic. All previous Scrapie tags were in plastic holders in numerical order which made it easy to load the tagger and keep the records straight. The Premier tags are randomly tossed loose in boxes. So not only do you have to dig for the beginning number of the sequence, you then have to dig for the mating tag. A huge error problem waiting to happen. On top of the fact when you have to tag 60-70 head of sheep by yourself, it’s going to take 2-3 times longer while you dig for matching tags. I ordered 200 tags so for the next 2-3 years I have to endure this mess. And as final note, I’ve purchased tags in the past that had metal points that help make a cleaner penetration with less tissue trauma. Not that it mattered but these tags have fake grey tips to make them appear like they are metal, pardon the pun but what’s the point? While the ordering process couldn’t be easier, and I’ll continue to use Premier 1 for other supplies as I have over the years with great satisfaction, I will never ever EVER again make the mistake of ordering Scrapie tags from them.
