Agri 8 Lithium Solar Fence Energizer
Product Details
New! Portable all-in-one Agri 8 arrives ready to power electric fences day and night.
Features an internal lithium battery and high-efficiency solar panel. 0.68 output joules effectively contains sheep, goats, poultry, swine, cattle, horses and other livestock, while protecting them from ground-based predators.
- ✔ Lithium-powered
- Lithium batteries charge much faster (up to 8X vs. lead-acid) and provide up to 95% of their rated capacity, regardless of the rate of discharge
- ✔ Lightweight and portable
- “Plug-and-play” simplicity—just mount on the included support spike (or a standard T-post), drive in a ground rod and attach the leads
- ✔ 3-year warranty*
- Covers all parts and labor expenses caused by defective parts and lightning surges. 6-month warranty for lithium batteries.
Instructions/Diagrams:
Benefits
Can also be used with garden and wildlife fences to keep out deer, raccoons, woodchucks, rabbits, opossums and skunks.
Solar powered energizers are a popular choice when 110V power is not easily accessible. Attached solar panel will recharge the battery on sunny days.
Specs
In the box:
- 0.68 output joule energizer
- 10 watt solar panel
- Internal lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) battery; 4.6Ah capacity
- (2) key tags, for turning the unit on/off
- Support spike
- Wiring harness
The support spike (included) can function as a ground rod. However, we recommend adding an 18" T ground rod (or longer) for optimal performance across a wider range of fence conditions. The Agri 8 can also be mounted on a standard T-post.
A 110V Plug-in Recharger (Item #113629) is available for those that need it.
Should power…
- 3–5 rolls of electric netting depending on soil conditions and vegetation
- 1-1/2 miles of 3 strand cattle fence
- 1/2 mile of 5–7 strand sheep fence
Common Questions
- There’s no switch, how do I turn the energizer on/off?
- The unit includes two key tags. Position the tag over energizer’s display panel to toggle on/off. Keep the tag on a key chain, or attach to the energizer via the solar panel’s built-in magnet.
- How often do lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries need to be replaced?
- Sealed lead-acid batteries (SLA) should last 3–5 years with proper maintenance. However, LiFePO4 batteries can provide 8–10 years of use, exceeding the lifespan of an SLA battery.
- Does extreme cold/hot temperature affect performance?
- The ambient temperature will impact the performance of LiFePO4 batteries. Prolonged exposure to extreme cold (≤14°F) or extreme heat (≥113°F) can lead to decreased capacity and risk of thermal runaway.
- Do I need to maintain the battery during periods of storage?
- Unlike SLA batteries which self-discharge when in storage, LiFePO4 cells retain more of their charge when dormant. Ensure your battery is partially charged (40–60%) before storing it. Routine trickle charging is not needed.
- Why doesn’t the Agri 8 come with a 110V battery recharger?
- Because it’s not needed for most applications. LiFePO4 batteries recharge quickly from the attached solar panel. A lithium battery charged to only 20% will output 12.8V—the same as a fully charged SLA battery. In full sun, it only takes a few hours to recharge a battery to operational status.
- Which direction should I point the solar panel?
- Position the energizer so that the solar panel faces due south. This will allow the panel to receive the maximum amount of sunlight possible, even during the low-light days of winter. Consider the sun’s movement throughout the day and avoid placing the unit where it may be covered by shadows from trees, bushes, tall grass, buildings or fence posts.
How to Use
Always check the voltage to ensure the fence is properly electrified before introducing animals.
Precautions
- Make sure the power is turned off before working on the fence or the energizer.
- Make sure the fence line is clear of grass and debris that may lower the fence’s voltage.
- Ensure the solar panel is facing due south and avoid placing the unit where it may be covered by shadows from trees, bushes or tall grass.
- Regularly remove all debris from the solar panel.
To Reduce Risk & Liability
- Never place your head or upper spine near an electrified wire. Accidental head or neck contact can occur when pushing a voltage probe into the soil. Be careful when doing so to avoid head-to-wire contact!
- Never attempt to step over or climb through an energized fence of any kind.
- Never encourage anyone to touch an electric fence.
Troubleshooting
Start by measuring the voltage at the end of the fence line. If the voltage is below 3000V, follow these steps to determine if the problem is with the fence, or the energizer.
Test the energizer first!
- Turn off the energizer.
- Disconnect the wires going to the fence and ground stake/rod.
- Turn the energizer back on.
- Measure the voltage on the energizer between the two terminals (positive and negative) with a fence voltmeter or other high-voltage tester. Touch one end to “-“ (earth terminal) and the other end to “+” (fence terminal). The reading tells you how well the energizer is working without any other variables.
- If the tester reads below 5000V, then the energizer (or possibly the battery) is the problem. If the voltage is above 5000V, then the trouble lies with your fence.
If the energizer is at fault:
- Test the battery with a low-voltage tester; recharge if lower than 12.2 volts
- Check the grounding system
If the fence is at fault:
- Conductors touching another wire, steel post or the soil
- Broken or damaged insulators
