Lightning Diverter
Product Details
New! Protect your electric fence energizer from lightning strikes during thunderstorms.
This easy to install surge protection system from Nemtek inhibits the high-voltage spike from damaging the energizer, and redirects the electrical surge into the ground through the ground rod(s).
Benefits
- Diverts lightning from the fence to the ground to protect the energizer
- Can be used with any fence energizer
- Mounts easily to a fence post
Instructions/Diagrams:
How It Works
During a strike, the lightning’s energy travels along the fence, looking for a path into the ground. In the case of an electric fence, that path will be through its grounding system, which is on the “opposite side” of the energizer. Because the high-voltage energy must pass through the energizer to get to the ground rod, it’s not uncommon for damage to occur to the energizers’ circuitry.
Installing a Nemtek Lightning Diverter between the fence and energizer is a simple and highly effective solution. The resistor coil slows the surge of electrical energy, while the lightning arrestor redirects excess energy to the ground and away from your fence energizer.
Specs
- 7"L x 2.5"W x 2.75H"
- Stainless steel components for long life
- UV-stabilized plastic housing
- Mounts onto a flat or a round surface; (2) mounting screws included
- Made by Nemtek in South Africa
How to Use
- Make sure the energizer is turned off.
- Install the lightning inhibitor and diverter between the energizer and the beginning of the electric fence. It should be installed closer to the electric fence than the energizer for increased surge and lightning protection. Ideally the diverter should be installed as close to the ground rod as possible, but no more than 6 feet away.
- Open the lightning diverter cover by removing the butterfly nuts and washers to expose the two mounting screw holes inside the unit. The mounting screw holes are located at the top and at the bottom of the lightning diverter. Mount the unit to a wall or post via included screws. Replace cover.
- Connect insulated fence cable from the energize to the energizer connection on the diverter.
- Using insulated fencing cable, connect from the diverter to the electric fence.
- Connect the diverter to a ground rod (no more than 6 feet away) with insulated fence cable. Use a separate ground rod than that of your energizer.
- Turn on the energizer and test fence for adequate voltage.
