Benefits

  • Lighter
  • Quieter
  • Easier to handle

Common Uses

  1. Blocking show sheep
  2. Shearing smaller flocks
  3. Shearing fiber goats
  4. Peeling and blocking beef & dairy cattle
  5. Shearing alpacas and llamas

Use with our combs and cutters.

Specs

  • 110 volt
  • Quieter. Less motor "whine", kind to your ears and less likely to upset animals.
  • 2700 strokes per minute cutting speed
  • Permanent rare-earth magnet motor enable more torque (power) and require less space and weight than ordinary motors. Less heat is produced by the permanent magnet motor and the fan forces air forward through our heads—so the heads run 20°F cooler.
  • Up to 20% shorter in length than other motors
  • Weighs up to 15% less than other motors
  • Smaller grip than other motors
  • Sleek, low profile head design (sharp visual look that catches your eye and impresses observers)
  • Internal roller bearings instead of bushings (less heat, less wear and greater longevity)
  • Suspended fork system (reduces risk of stripping the gear drive or breaking comb teeth)
  • No cutter retainer or retaining spring (both caused hassles and broke too readily)
  • Improved tensioning concept (spring clip is more effective at retaining tension than cupped washers)
  • Only 3 minutes to change a shear head to clipper head
  • Motor has a 16 ft electrical cord
  • Designed and assembled in USA from domestic and foreign parts

Tips

Tensioning Shear Heads—Why the correct tension is so critical!

To get the tension right:
  1. Tighten the tension knob, until resistance is felt, to force the cutter against the comb. Tighten an additional 1/2 turn.
  2. Apply shearing oil to the comb and cutter.
  3. Turn on the machine. Tweak tension according to comb/cutter heat/cutting ability. To find the sweet spot, adjust tension cautiously while operating.
Too little tension:
  1. Wool gets under the cutter, which prevents cutting. Remove the cutter, clean out the wool, replace the cutter, then reset the tension.
  2. The cutter may fly off, allowing forks to drop between the comb’s teeth—which strips the drive gear.
Too much tension:
  1. Causes excessive friction, dulling the cutting edges quickly.
  2. Heat builds on both the comb/cutter and shearing head.

Preparing the Animal for Clipping

  • Remove the dirt from the hair first. If this is not done, expect accelerated blade wear and a reduction in animals clipped between blade sharpenings in exact proportion to the amount of dirt present. The benefits of dirt removal prior to clipping cannot be over-emphasized. Example: Those who wash their lambs prior to clipping often clip 20–30 club lambs between sharpenings (if the blades have been sharpened properly on a lapping machine). Those who don’t and have lambs with sand and soil in the wool often clip less than two lambs between sharpenings.
  • Washing the animal with soap and water removes the most dirt. If this is not practical, use a high power vacuum or blower to remove as much dirt as possible from the hair or wool.
  • Restrain the animal. Few animals like the sound of a clipper or the feel of vibration on their skin. When they react to either without warning, accidents can and will happen. Therefore, for the sake of you, your animal and your clipper, restrain the animal properly prior to clipping.

Precautions

We are no longer converting machines to 220V.

Failure to oil as often as recommended may lead to excess heat and premature wear and tear.

Warning: Unlike some other clipper motors, this motor will neither slow down nor sound different when oil is needed. But failure to oil will quickly cause damage to the blades and drive head. So you MUST apply oil by time instead of sound. Apply a small amount of oil every 3 minutes to the tips of the teeth and each side of the blade by dipping them into a dish of oil or pouring oil directly onto the teeth with a small oil container and every 10 minutes drip oil into the small hole behind the tension knob assembly. Excessive wear can occur if not oiled properly!

Warning: Risk of electrical shock—Connect only to a branch circuit protected by a ground-fault circuit-interrupter (GFCI). Contact a qualified electrician if you cannot verify that the circuit is protected by a GFCI.

Warranty

Covers all labor and parts for 3 years from the date of purchase. 2 years longer than any competing unit! Abuse (e.g. dropping it) and neglect (e.g. failure to oil frequently enough) are not covered.

Listed below are recommended optional components or related items. Your particular situation may require alternative recommendations. Please call and talk to our consultants if there are any questions at 800-282-6631.

Haven’t used the extra cutter or comb as the new clippers came with a new set. I just love these clippers! I used them on muddy Targhees for lamb prepping and flew right through them. Very sharp, light, responsive and well balanced.

The Premiere 4000 machine runs quieter and cooler than our old one. The Spirit comb is easier to cut the skin with. It is faster but prefer the Phantom comb so we don’t cut them. We have used a Phantom comb and Spirit cutter and prefer it.

I acquired a small herd of young Angora goats. After much research and interviewing many people, I invested in these shears. Disappointed. They could not cut thru the fine kid grade hair. I even had my experienced friend with me who owns a small herd of longwool sheep. She can shear her sheep in less than 20 minutes. It took us 2 hours to shear a yearling angora—only because I pulled out my hand shears.

I’ve tried these on adults with higher micron count and I still can’t get them to cut. I oil, have played with the tension, reset the blades (I bought extra blades when I bought the shears) but no go… I cannot get them to go thru mohair. Considering they are loud, heavy and have significant vibration, I will be buying a different brand.

Got 3 pair and yet I don’t have a pair that works. They last about a year then they are done. Figure that the cost to ship them back to get fixed would cost more than they are worth. The cords suck. Buy the China crap and when they quit just throw them away and order a new pair, probably cheaper in the long run.

The Premier 4000 shearing machine is great! I have a small flock and decided to shear them myself due to a lack of shearers in the area. These shears worked perfectly. I am very satisfied with this product. I highly recommend!

About Conductivity

Conductivity measures the amount of electrical current a material can carry. The opposite measure is known as resistance.

Tinned Copper Superconductor

Many of Premier’s electric net fences feature a green and white superconductor that has both stainless steel and tinned copper filaments for optimal conductivity.

These “premium” nets are 10 times more conductive (38 ohms per 1000') than “basic” nets offered by our competitors. This enables the electric pulse to travel much farther and be less affected by weed contact.

Customers who are unhappy with netting are often those who’ve chosen nets from China or their farmstore equivalents.

Types of Line Posts

Line posts are built into the net. Three options are available.*

Line Posts Compared
  1. Single Spike (SS)
The best choice, unless your soils are always soft or very hard.
  2. Double Spike (DS)
Posts allow you to push in the spikes with your foot. When soil is hard or rocky, double spikes are more difficult to install and remove.
  3. Drivable Posts (DP)
Allows use of a mallet or dead blow hammer for installing posts in dry, hard or rocky soil. Features a “spike stop” for extra support and internal fiberglass ribs for added strength.

Tip: To insert a line post into frozen or hard soil, use a power tool to drill pilot holes.

* Not all fences have all line post options.

About Positive/Negative (Pos/Neg) Nets

Is your area dry?

Conventional electrified fence systems rely on soil moisture to be effective. However, not all areas have the required moisture.

Dry soil increases resistance—a weaker, less effective pulse occurs that does not deter animals.

To overcome this, Pos/Neg nets* are wired to allow the use of every other horizontal strand as an extension of the ground terminal. Because half the strands are connected to the ground terminal or ground rod, reliance on soil moisture is reduced. A PowerLink must be purchased separately to make the secondary ground connection.

How it works…

In order to receive a shock, the animal must touch both a positive (hot) and negative (grounded) strand at the same time. This will deliver more pain to the animal than an all hot net (Pos/Pos) because moisture in the soil is not required to complete the circuit.

Pos/Neg fences can be converted to Pos/Pos in moist conditions. Remember, all fences must be kept free of vegetation.

* Not all fences have Pos/Neg options.

Line Post Spacing

“Plus” nets—6'8" spacings between built-in line posts*

Line Post Spacing

Standard nets—10' or 12' spacings between built-in line posts*

* Spacings are approximate.
Distance between built-in line posts may vary by product.

Essential Energizer Advice

  • Buy a larger energizer than necessary. When the fence pleases, most folks will buy more fence—and need additional output.
  • Use a low-impedance intermittent pulse energizer.
  • Use a fence tester to check the voltage often.
  • Use enough ground rod(s)—included with our energizer kits.
  • Don’t allow your lead acid battery to discharge below 40%.
  • Use insulated wire that is designed for electric fences.
  • Always connect the fence to an energizer, not an outlet.
  • Visit this link for answers to other common energizer questions.

Two Basic Types

  1. All-in-one Solar
    • Solar units are very portable.
    • Because they need a battery, these units are more costly to purchase and operate than plug-in units.
    • Batteries are less effective in cold temperatures (deplete faster).
    • Most farmstore solar units are too weak, in joules of output, to properly energize netting. That’s why we designed our own.
  2. Plug-in & Battery
    • Least cost to purchase and operate per joule of output.
    • Best for fences exposed to heavy vegetation.
    • Cold temperatures do not affect performance.
    • Recommended for whole-farm systems, but can be complex to install. Higher output requires more ground rods, underground cables, multiple output terminals, etc.

Braided vs. Twisted

Braiding instead of twisting the horizontals increases the frequency of metal filaments on the outside of the strand.

Braided vs. Twisted Electric Net Fences

What’s the benefit?

  1. More metal is exposed on the outside of the strand. This enables improved animal to conductor contact. The electric pulse is better able to travel from the fence and into the animal, resulting in a memorable shock.
  2. A tighter, braided weave results in fewer snags when carried or pulled through pastures, reducing frustration.
