How to Use
Set the waterer so the nipples are just above head height—the birds should stretch up slightly to drink.
Handle is used to carry the bucket (unplugged) to and from a hydrant for filling. Some may find the bucket handle fits too loosely underneath the lid. For a better fit, gently squeeze the top of the bucket inward while attaching the lid. The lid will snap into place over the handle.
Chickens will take to the nipple drinkers more readily when there is no other water source available. We recommend removing your current waterer and placing the new waterer in the same location. Then, bring a bird’s beak directly to the nipple drinker and flick/activate the nipple to demonstrate the new water source.

I love this heated waterer, but I gave it 4 out of 5 stars do to how the top locks on. It would be better to have the lid actually go over the edge of the bucket instead of it barely locking on the steel handle edge. It doesn't take much to knock it off. Maybe a loose fit twist and lock design for the top and you would have 5 stars across the board. I love the low wattage use, all others that I could find were around 250 watts. I'm not looking to heat the water to steam, just keep it from freezing and this waterer does it nicely.

Even though this item has it's shortcomings out of the box I give this item a five star rating for the following reasons:
• This unit is by far the best heated water option for the low power usage of 50W. This low wattage lets the unit be powered by my moderate scale solar panel powered battery bank that powers my coop. In fact, it's the only one I've found that I can run with my system.
• As some have said, this is the $40 heated bucket that you can find at most farm and fleet stores. The local farm store here carries the same one. And yes, you can add your own horizontal nipples to any bucket. What this package gives you that you can't find is the cone shaped dome lid that keeps birds off the top. The plastic lid is durable and well worth the value.
• The lid really doesn't fit on very nicely with the bucket's handle installed, so I took the handle off, but kept the rings that attach the handle to the bucket. When you bend these wires out a little bit, they hold the lid on a little more snugly.
• This is a heated waterer with a power cord. You're not going to be hauling it around like a normal bucket. You don't need the handle.
Premier1 has done what the market really needed. They found a way to heat a nipple drinker and bring it to market. I have no doubt Premier1 will continue to refine and improve this item.

I've only had it a few weeks, but it's worked fine so far. Seems a little pricey for a plastic unit, but it is well made and has worked so far.

I've had this waterer about 2 weeks. It arrived during a cold snap so I put it to use right away. It has been great to no longer deal with frozen water. I also love the fact that the water stays clean. I showed a few of the chickens how it worked and by the 2nd day they all seemed to have caught on. The negative is not being able to carry it by the handle when the lid is on, but since I carry the water to it anyway, that's not a big deal. It's a good size for 14 hens.

Maybe someone can help me out. The water is not freezing so that's good, but the nipples keep freezing stuck so they can't drink the water inside.
