A multi-purpose electric poultry net fence with a non-electrifiable chick-tight mesh along the bottom. This combination allows you to use the enclosure as a non-electrified day pen for small birds, or electrified for effective predator protection day and night. Each roll of netting is a complete fence with the posts already built into the mesh/fence. 48" tall.

When to electrify—

It’s important to electrify the fence in areas where predators are a nuisance, or if your birds will be unsupervised for long periods of time. Without a proper deterrence, animals will not learn to respect the fence and, unfortunately, will test it. You will need a fence energizer to electrify the net.

When not to electrify—

Some folks prefer to watch their birds during the day and take them in at night. They can use a non-energized fence.

If your flock is not under constant supervision, then we strongly advise that you electrify the fence. Non-electrified netting will not stop predators.

Benefits
Shock-Or-Not™ Poultry Fence is best when moved daily or weekly. This portable netting is quick and simple to set up. The line posts are built-in, so it takes less than 10 minutes to go from out-of-the-box netting to installed fence. Reset wherever backyard fencing is needed, e.g. fresh forage, sun/shade.

The chick-tight mesh allows it to be used non-energized (birds can’t squirm through the 3/4" spacings). For nighttime protection against predators, electrify the netting or move birds into a coop.

Installation
If the fence is to be energized, set it up so the electrifiable strands (metal filaments) are on the outside of the fence. Local animals and wildlife get to know a fence by appearance, location and pain memory. This teaches predators to fear the fence and look elsewhere for their next meal.

Caution: To reduce the chance of entanglement, we strongly recommend using additional support posts at the corners of your fence. This will help to stop pockets from forming between the chick-tight mesh and conductive netting. The Shock-Or-Not™ Poultry Fence Kit includes 4 additional FiberTuff™ step-in posts for this reason.
The same “unroll and then unfold” process applies to all electrified nets. Minimal strength or skill needed (and no tools). You will need a fence energizer to electrify the net.

Precautions
When energized, electric fence is a pain barrier, not a physical barrier. If animals are scared or starved it will not keep them in. Animals may escape or become entangled (and may die). On a % basis, entanglement is very rare, but it can and does occur.

It is best to train animals to electric fence before you turn them out in the net only. The first time you put the animals in the net, you should be available to watch them for a while. That way if one were to get into the fence and get caught, you can turn the power off and get them loose.

Warning! Due to risk of fire, do NOT use continuous output energizers with electric netting or electro-plastic conductors such as rope, twine or tape. Use only with a low or wide impedance intermittent pulse energizer. (Fi-Shock™ brand energizers which are sold as low impedance, continuous current output should NOT be used with electric netting.) All energizers sold on Premier’s website use an intermittent pulse and are suitable for use with electric netting.

Dry conditions and wintertime usage may reduce the effectiveness of electric netting. We do not recommend the use of electric netting during harsh winter conditions—ice and heavy snow can flatten netting and thereby damage it.

Dry or frozen ground may cause post spikes to bend or break if inserted with force. Pilot holes may be needed.

Tall grass: mow the fenceline prior to installing the net. This reduces grass contact on the conductors (and power loss). It also levels the surface, reducing grass hummocks that cause gaps beneath the net that young poultry may be tempted to escape.

Rabbits, chipmunks, mice and other small critters may chew through the nonelectrified strings of Shock-Or-Not.

Troubleshooting
If the voltage drops below 3000V on the net, you need to turn off the energizer and unhook the net from the energizer. Test the energizer by itself. If the voltage is 5000V or higher on the energizer, the problem is in the net. The most common problem is that the lowest “hot” strand has been caught around one of the metal spikes on the posts and is shorting it out. The net must be at least 2" away from anything metal (metal posts, existing fences, spikes on support posts).

With Shock-Or-Not™ Poultry Fence, the bottom hot wire can slip off of the plastic portion of the end posts onto the metal spikes. This will cause a dead short and no energy will be on the fence. Unhook the energizer and slide the hot wire back onto the post. Reconnect the energizer to the net and test.

Warranty
With proper care, electric netting should last 5-7 years. Replacements will be prorated.

This is our second poultry fence and we bought it because we decided to hatch our own chicks. It's nice to have the option to reverse the fence when the birds are young. Very easy to use just like the standard poultry net.

The net is high quality and the customer service is wonderful. I love working with Premier, but unfortunately I had to send this product back. I used it for a few days without electrifying it, hoping I might not need to use it electrified all the time, and my birds quickly learned to fly over it. I then electrified it, and even with a good charge, they just ignored the shocks and flew over it again. I recommend being sure to electrify it when you first use it to train them, instead of starting them out with it off. I think that might have solved our problem.

Super easy to install, the instructions were great. It did not come with the bits to connect it to the solar charger but we had some metal wire on hand. We got the electric netting to deal with HEAVY raccoon pressure and a very large and dopey farm dog. So far so good no hungry beasts have gotten to our broiler chickens yet.

The bottom string doesn’t seem to be electric and pulled up in a couple uneven parts of the lot but nothing a few plastic tent spikes couldn’t fix. Over all very pleased and will be purchasing another set in the future.
